We are now in the second half of 2026 so here are six shifts in the past 6 months worth knowing:

1. Venture capital is split into two separate markets.

There's the AI market, and there's everyone else. In Q1 2026, AI companies took roughly 80% of all venture dollars in a single quarter (this broke every prior record). So if you're building outside AI, compete on numbers, not narrative.

2. Stage labels stopped meaning anything.

A "seed" round in 2026 can be $2M for a first-time founder or $6B+ for a team that hasn't shipped a product yet. You can start with benchmarking against companies at your actual level of traction and momentum.

3. Agents impress no one unless you can show the before and after

Your AI agents need to prove task completion, auditability, humans kept in the right decision points, and a clear before-and-after.

4. Small AI-native teams are winning

These teams are proving that you often need less capital, not more. The move is to raise a tighter round and stretch the runway by two to three times.

5. Seed-to-Series A has become harder.

More founders are closing a seed and then stalling. The bar for what counts as a moat has gone up. So, line up your Series A story before you raise the seed round. Know your proprietary data loop, your workflow ownership, etc.

6. AI cold outreach is working against people.

Investor and buyer inboxes are flooded with AI-written emails, and the pattern is easy to spot. AI is a research and drafting copilot for outreach.

P.S. You can keep up with these ever-evolving shifts only if your workflow becomes more consolidated. That's the thing we're building VentureVerse for. One AI app store for everything a founder would ever need.
