We asked one of the founders we work with how much money he spent in October and where it all went.
30 minutes later, we had a spreadsheet.
And this is before rent, salaries, or any major business expenses.
First, the everyday stuff ☕
What he spent on | October |
|---|---|
Morning coffees + second coffees on long days | $157.25 |
Uber/Grab (12 rides) | $157.40 |
Lunches between meetings (6 times) | $88.20 |
Food delivery after late calls (5 times) | $96.50 |
Snacks and random 7-Eleven runs | $34.60 |
Netflix | $8.99 |
Spotify | $12.99 |
iCloud storage | $2.99 |
Online course (still unopened) | $29.00 |
Total | $587.92 |
Looking at the numbers, he realised he might be drinking a little too much coffee. And that he could probably start walking to work more often.
But then there was a $29 course he'd bought and hadn't even started yet.
Now, there's nothing particularly crazy about any of this. Most of us probably have a pretty similar list.
Then we looked at his work subscriptions 💻
Software | Monthly | Per day |
|---|---|---|
Calendly (booking meetings) | $12.00 | $0.39 |
Notion (managing projects) | $12.00 | $0.39 |
Canva Pro (design) | $15.00 | $0.48 |
Mailchimp (email marketing) | $13.00 | $0.42 |
ChatGPT Plus (general AI) | $20.00 | $0.65 |
Perplexity Pro (AI research) | $20.00 | $0.65 |
Otter AI (meeting notes) | $16.99 | $0.55 |
Descript (AI video editing) | $24.00 | $0.77 |
Midjourney (AI images) | $10.00 | $0.32 |
Grammarly Pro (AI writing) | $30.00 | $0.97 |
LinkedIn Premium | $39.99 | $1.29 |
Website hosting + domain | $24.80 | $0.80 |
TOTAL | $237.78 | $7.67 |
The second list is what got us thinking.
He was spending $237.78 every month on 12 different work tools.
That's an average of $19.82 per tool, or $0.64/day.
And most of these subscriptions were actually useful.
One helped him write. Another helped him research. One edited videos. Another took notes during meetings.
But there was still so much work that needed to get done.
Finding investors, researching competitors, building pitch decks, figuring out his GTM strategy, product pricing, working on legal documents, and a lot more.
So we told him about something we've been building.
30+ specialised startup AI apps, built by a VC themselves after working with over 1,300 startups.
With the Ventureverse Starter Pack, you get all this for $9/month or $0.30/day.
And the first 7 days are Free!
P.S. We're still trying to convince him to finish that $29 course.
